Children’s rooms needn’t be crowded by colour and cartoon characters. Here are 10 spaces that prove there is a way (several actually!) to design kid’s bedrooms that are stylish and space-smart, without compromising on fun.

01. At his Mumbai home, architect Amit Shastri let his children's energies guide their room design. A pitched roof over the bed recreates the cosy appeal of a cubby house. The openable, false, louvred window is actually a night-light!

02. Designers Rushda Hakim (@RushdaHakim) and Rishita Das (@RishitaDas) capitalize on a double-height ceiling to create a loft bed over the study area. This frees up floor space for plenty of free play.

03. Similarly, interior designer and blogger Rittika Chokhany maximizes floor space in this girl's bedroom by building the bed into the wide window niche. Check out the rest of the home here.

04. Not exactly a children’s room, but we had to include this one for its ingenious planning. Texas-based Collins Interiors (@collins__interiors) manages to pack in bunking space for the whole family!

05. Aussie Instagrammer Chenoa channels a beachy vibe in her son Bay's bedroom with the perfect curation of thematic decor.

06. This little girl's room feels like walking into a spot of sunshine. We love the tactile material board which includes rattan, wood, breathable cottons and chunky knits.

07. An otherwise ordinary storage unit is turned into a fun decor element, courtesy some clever application of laminate cladding.

08. Japanese blogger and decor enthusiast Kaho's style is all about eclectic minimalism. Seen here, the study in her daughter's bedroom which, marries elements of warm wood and rattan with cool-toned metal.

09. From the abstract artwork and blinds to the study desk and bed linen, this little boy's room by Lisa Fleming Design is all about simple geometry and smart colour coordination.
