Often accused for its extreme love for North Indian profiling of central characters, Bollywood has an evident fixation for Bengali characters also. Its timeline covering the 60s and 70s hosts a rich profusion of films that were either adaptations from Bengali literature, or remakes of masterpieces originally made in Tollygunge, resulting to a plenitude of Babumoshai-esq caricatures.
After a somewhat dry phase, Bengali characters have started frequenting the silver screen again, and taking over other means of storytelling also. The latest entry is of Jacqueline Fernandez who pranced on Badshah’s Genda Phool in the archetypal white saree with red border and whipped up a good 130 million view in about 10 days.
Here are some other loved Bengalis of the cine world.
