Vinod Khanna:

A four-time MP, the late Vinod Khanna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1997. In 1998, he was elected from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab and became a Lok Sabha MP. Khanna was a star campaigner for BJP, managing to pull huge crowds wherever he went.
In July 2002, Khanna became the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism under the then Vajpayee Government. Six months later, in 2002, he was inducted in the Ministry of External Affairs as a Minister of State.
Though he lost the 2009 general elections, Khanna was again elected in 2014 general elections from the Gurdaspur constituency. According to PRS data, Khanna attended 50 percent of parliament proceedings.

12 Bollywood actors who tried their luck at politics

While the film industries of the south have been the breeding grounds of many successful politicians – from M.G Ramachandran and NT Rama Rao to M Karunanidhi, J Jayalalitha and Chiranjeevi, the Hindi film industry has also seen quite a few actors jumping on the political bandwagon – some successful, others not.

We take a look at Bollywood actors who took the plunge into politics.
