2019 Box Office September Monthly Report : Was This A Good Month For Bollywood Or A Massive Fail?

September is always considered to be a good month for Bollywood as producers cash in on the festival season which kicks off from this time of the year. Though September turned out to be one of the best month for medium budgeted films like Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Dream Girl, Sushant Singh Rajput and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Chhichhore, Akshaye Khanna and Richa Chaddha starrer Section 375 which wooed the multiplex junta there were three films – The Zoya Factor, Prassthatham and Pal Pal Dil Ke Pass, which were washout at the box office.

Chhichhore – 6th September

After giving the biggest blockbuster in the history of Bollywood cinema, Dangal, and light hearted comedies like Bhoothnath Returns and Chillar Party, Niteshh Tiwari is back with yet another feel good cinema, Chhichhore, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Sharma. The reviews from both critics and audience for Chhichhore were excellent which turned out to be a gold digger for producers as college drama became the 7th highest grossing film of 2019 and will be touching the Rs 150 milestone soon at just a budget of Rs 65 crore.

Dream Girl & Section 375 – 13th September

Next Friday we saw the clash of two interesting but very different films – Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Dream Girl and Akshaye Khanna starrer Section 375. After giving solid hit in form of Article 15 this year, Ayushmann Khurrana was back with his second venture, Dream Girl which has a fresh star cast comprising of Nushrat Barucha and Annu Kapoor. Welcomed by glowing reviews, the Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Barucha starrer Dream Girl opened big at the box office and is on the verge of becoming the highest grossing film of Ayushmann Khurrana by beating Badhaai Ho (Rs 134.42 crore).

Akshaye Khanna returned to the silver screen after giving admiring performances in films like Ittefaq and Mom and with Section 375, he just took one step ahead. Made at a shoe-string budget of Rs 20 crore, Section 375 could not sustain at the box office but was highly appreciated by both critics and audience, collecting somewhere around Rs 11 crore.

The Zoya Factor, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas and Prassthanam

Next week, we saw the clash of three significant films –The Zoya Factor, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas And Prassthanam. Sadly all three films opened to poor response.

The Zoya Factor had a terrible collections with Rs 3 crore (approx) inspite of huge budget (Rs 30 crore), eye-candy promotions and star cast. There were no takers for the multi-starrer film Prassthatham which ended its total at Rs 5 crore (approx). The budget of Prassthatham was Rs 40 crore.

The Karan Deol and Sahher Vambba starrer Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas was the only film which did the best among all three films, though it did not even cross 10 crore, made on a budget of Rs 30 crore.
