While Anees Bazmee is one of the most sought-after filmmakers today, there have been times when he poured his sweat and blood into making a film but that film never saw the light of the day!
After writing the script for several hit films directed by David Dhawan in the 90s, Anees Bazmee took the plunge into direction with the Ajay Devgn – Kajol starrer ‘Hulchul’ (1995). The film failed to leave an impact at the box-office but Bazmee bounced back with his second film ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’ (1999) which had the same leading pair. The film, which had some melodious songs by Jatin-Lalit, proved to be a huge earner at the box-office. Since then, the writer-director had delivered a slew of huge hits like ‘No Entry’ (2005), ‘Welcome’ (2007), ‘Singh Is Kinng’ (2018), ‘Ready’ (2011), among others. His new film ‘Pagalpanti’, a multi-starrer featuring John Abraham, Ileana D’Cruz, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda and Urvashi Rautela, is about to hit the screens this Friday. Despite having a good success ratio and being one of the most successful directors in the country, there have been multiple occasions when a film directed by Anees Bazmee did not hit the screens despite being incomplete.
Here is a list of three of such films.
1. Radheshyam Sitaram
‘Radheshyam Sitaram’ was actually the second film Anees Bazmee had directed. What is interesting about this film is that both Suniel Shetty and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had double roles. Suniel was playing both Ram and Shyam and Aishwarya was portraying the characters of Radhe and Sita. The film was shot in 1997 and was complete but for some reason, never saw the light of the day. Going by the pictures available online, Suniel and Aishwarya donned a variety of get-ups for the film.
‘Naam’ was the fourth collaboration between Anees Bazmee and Ajay Devgn after ‘Hulchul’, ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’ and ‘Deewangee’. Interestingly, the director has never worked with the actor in an out-and-out comedy film. ‘Naam’, initially titled ‘Benaam’, was a suspense thriller in which Ajay had Bhumika Chawla and Sameera Reddy as his leading ladies. The producer Dinesh Patel, who had also produced Ajay’s first film ‘Phool Aur Kaante’, ran into some financial trouble during the making of the film. A few remaining portions could not be shot and the film remains unreleased.

3. It’s My Life
An official remake of the super-hit Telugu film ‘Bommarillu’ (2006), this romantic comedy featuring Harman Baweja and Genelia D’Souza could never see the light of the day despite the shooting being complete. The film had music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Genelia was reprising the role she had played in the original. This film would also have marked Kapil Sharma’s debut in films. The comedian-actor had a small role in the film.
