On 25 June, the iconic Indian victory at the 1983 World Cup completed 36 years and Ranveer Singh shared the perfect video for the occasion. The actor, who’s currently shooting for 83 in England, took to Instagram to post a video giving a sneak-peek into the actors’ preparation for their characters.
“36 years ago on this day, India turned the world upside down!!! #ThisIs83 @83thefilm @kabirkhankk,” he wrote as the caption to the video.
The video starts by showing glimpses of Kapil Dev lifting the World Cup in 1983, after defeating West Indies and goes on to show some behind the scenes footage from the sets of 83. All the actors, including Sahil Khattar, Pankaj Tripathi, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk and Hardy Sandhu, are seen practicing in the nets in proper cricket attire. Then, a few seconds into the clip, Ranveer can be seen clad in white uniform as Kapil practicing his bowling action with former Indian cricketer, Balvinder Singh Sandhu. Before it ends, the video shows director Kabir Khan overseeing the shoot preparations.
After 1983, India lifted its second World Cup title in 2011, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
Meanwhile, the 83 squad has been preparing for the shoot day and night. Pankaj Tripathi who recently joined the team was left with bruises on his arms and shoulder, as he met with an accident just before he left for a family vacation. Despite being in a lot of pain, Pankaj decided to begin shooting for 83 as he did not want to cause any delays, especially since the shoot involves several other actors. He plays the role of the Indian team manager during the Cricket World Cup 1983, Man Singh.
The actor says that everyone on set is making sure that he is taken care of and that has helped him immensely. “While shooting, the crew is taking care not to give me scenes or shots that requires physical stress. Ranveer being so close and friendly, and being so electrifying, is also taking care of my health and greets me from a distance. On the set there is a physiotherapist who is helping me out with my injury.”
