The multi-starrer Malang is doing pretty good at the ticket window but the other release Shikara further on Wednesday.
Directed by Mohit Suri and with interesting star cast comprising of Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Kunal Khemu and Anil Kapoor, Malang is performing better than expected on the weekdays. The drama took a fair opening in the morning shows with around 20%. Th earnings picked up in the evening and night shows, collecting Rs 6.71 crore on the first day while the earnings grew by around 35% on Saturday with Rs 8.89 crore. There was slight growth on Sunday with Rs 9.76 crore. The earnings dropped to a reasonable amount with Rs 4.04 crore but held well on Tuesday with Rs 3.80. As per early estimates, the earnings held we on Wednesday with Rs 3.04 crore, bringing the five days total to Rs 36-36.50 crore.
The budget of romance drama is Rs 50 crore (Production cost is Rs 40 crore, Printing and advertisement is Rs 10 crores)
Shikara is directed by the veteran director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has given us cult classics like Parinda and 1947-A Love Story is back after a gap of 13 years of gap (Eklavaya was his last film released in 2007) .
Based on the harsh-reality of Kashmiri Pandits, Shikara has garnered decent reviews which reflected into the box office numbers.
Starring Sadia and Adil Khan in a lead position, Shikara has opened on a poor response with just 5% occupancy in the morning shows across India. The earnings showed slight improvement towards the end of the day, minting Rs 1.20 crore. There was a limited growth on Saturday with Rs 1.85 crore followed by Rs 1.90 crore on Sunday. The earnings on Monday dropped to Rs 75 lakhs but held well on Tuesday with Rs 65 lakhs. Though the film held well on Wednesday with Rs 60 lakhs, bringing the six days total to Rs 6.85 crore, the earnings are still pretty low. The budget of Shikara is estimated to be Rs 20 crore.
