Despite Akshay Kumar starrer Housefull 4 and Rajkummar Rao starrer Made In China hogging the limelight, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Saand Ki Aankh remained firm at the box office as the second weekend collections of the biopic drama already crossed the first weekend total.

Produced by Anurag Kashyap, Saand Ki Aankh is based on a true story of the oldest sharpshooters Chandro and Prakashi Tomar played by Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu. Though the story of Saand Ki Aankh is inspiring, the trailer had received lukewarm response from the audience.

Also starring Prakash Jha in key roles, Saand Ki Aankh was releasing at the wrong time of the festive season plus competition from Housefull 4 and Made In China impacted its collections as Saand Ki Aankh had the weakest opening of all three films with Rs 48 lakhs. However due to glowing reviews, the biopic drama showed a stellar growth on the second day with Rs 1.08 crore. Even though the 3rd day was the main Diwali celebration, the biopic drama continued to hold well with Rs 91 lakhs, bringing the first weekend collections to Rs 2.48 crore.

Compared to Made In China, Saand Ki Aankh is performing better than expected as it collected Rs 11.68 crore in its first week. There was a good hold on second Friday with Rs 1.28 crore which is three time its opening day number.

As per trade estimates, Saand Ki Aankh showed a decent jump on second Saturday with Rs 1.60 crore, bringing the second weekend collections to Rs 2.88 crore and has already crossed the first weekend collections. The 9 days total of biopic drama stands Rs 14.56 crore. The budget of biopic drama is Rs 28 Crore (Production Cost: 22 Crore, Prints & Advertising Cost: 6 Crore).

Bhumi Pednekar says, “This film is very special to me and so are the dadis. The fact that people have appreciated our hard work makes us feel at peace and joyous at the same time. I couldn’t have asked for us“.Taapsee Pannu says, “This is an exceptional experience. The audience has shown that they are ready for more stories from India’s heartland. We need to tell more such stories and I want to be part of all of them.

Saand ki Aankh has not only hit the box office bull’s eye but is here to stay for the long haul.
