Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar are two superstars of their generation in Bollywood who have given numerous blockbusters individually. But also, when the two came together, they gave some iconic performances. Be it their buddy father-son duo act in Waqt: The Race Against Time, where Big B played a terminally-ill father who distances his carefree son, played by Akshay, from himself so as to make him responsible before he dies, or the crime-action thriller Aankhen, where Amitabh’s character plans a heist to rob a bank with the help of three blind men, including Akshay Kumar’s character, the two actors together have created magic on screen .
However, their first collaboration occurred in 2001 with Suneel Darshan’s Ek Rishtaa: The Bond Of Love. The film boasted an ensemble cast at that time with Rakhee, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Mohnish Bahl, along with the two actors. The film is a family drama where a big family encounters a crisis when disputes take place between the father (Amitabh) and the son (Akshay).
Recalling his experience of shooting for the film about two decades ago, Akshay goes down memory lane, sharing, “Some memories fade away with time, but Ek Rishtaa is truly a nostalgic experience as it explored a relationship, which I bonded with so deeply and the delight of being cast with Mr Bachchan added to my excitement. I feel deeply indebted to the audience for their continued appreciation of the movie."
Ek Rishtaa released in India on May 18, 2001 and it completes 20 years to its theatrical release tomorrow.
