Akshay Kumar is Teen Khiladi in old pic: Mom ensured I got nutritious meals to fuel my passion

After his wife Twinkle Khanna nominated him to share his childhood picture and take part in the initiative to spread awareness on girl child education, Akshay Kumar took to Twitter to share a throwback picture of himself.

Akshay posted a picture of himself where he is seen sitting on a bicycle inside his house. Akshay posted his picture with a heartfelt caption. He talked about his teenage days when his mother provided him with nutritious meals and how many children in our country are deprived of the same.

Akshay nominated his Mission Mangal co-stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu and Sonakshi Sinha to spread the word and take the initiative forward.

The actor wrote, "Growing up I was always inclined towards sports & my mom ensured I got nutritious home-cooked meals to fuel my passion. But 11,72,604 children in India can't afford even a single meal a day! It's time to ask #WhyTheGap with @stc_india .I nominate @vidya_balan @taapsee @sonakshisinha."

The initiative was started by the non-profit organisation, Save The Children India. Twinkle Khanna, who is Artist Ambassador of the NGO, first took to Twitter to share a childhood picture of herself to give a push to the initiative.

Twinkle shared her picture with her schoolmates and wrote, "Growing up, as you can see not only did I have the same hairstyle as my class teacher( why? why? why?) but studying and doing well was very important to me and it all helped me to become an independent woman. 2/5 girls still don't complete school. Let's ask #WhyTheGap with @savethechildren_india to give every girl #TheRightStart- I nominate @sonamkapoor @tahirakashyap @akshaykumar to take this further by sharing their school memories."

Both Twinkle and Akshay keep voicing their opinions on social issues. While Twinkle talks about social issues on social media and in her routine columns in India's leading publications, Akshay has done films - Pad Man, Toilet Ek Prem Katha - to raise awareness on social issues.

The Mission Mangal star also keeps donating money for various causes. He recently donated Rs 2 crore for Assam floods.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Akshay said that the images coming from the flood-hit areas of Assam made him sad and he didn't twice before donating the money. He said, "One of the images that really affected me was of a mother holding her baby on her shoulders and wading through the flood waters. There was no expression of sadness or stress on her face. And that's a dangerous sign. What all she must have gone through that she forgot all her sorrows. When I come across such photos, I am like, it can happen to my wife or my daughter.' Aisi photos bahut choobhtin hai. That's why I did what I did."

In 2017, Akshay Kumar launched the Bharat Ke Veer app, with the help of the home ministry. The platform lets people send money directly to the bank accounts of family members of soldiers martyred in the line of duty.

Akshay enjoys a huge fan base and the actor's voice on social media will make a difference.
