All you need to know about Gautam Adani

Gautam Shantilal Adani is a man who needs no introduction. The founder and Chairman of the Adani Group. He is the second-most richest person in India, with a net worth of over USD 25.2 billion. The Ahmedabad-based diverse conglomerate has significant businesses involved in port developments and operations, logistics, utility, agriculture, and defense, among various others.

Gautam Adani always had entrepreneurial instincts and outlook. He had once famously said, “Being an entrepreneur is my dream job as it tests one's tenacity. I could never take orders from anyone.”

Humble Beginnings

Gautam Adani was born in Ahmedabad on 24 June 1962 to Shanti and Shantilal Adani. He studied in Ahmedabad, at Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya school, and later pursued a B.Com. degree from Gujarat University, from which he left in the second year.

While still a teenager, he shifted to Mumbai and started working as a diamond roller and sorter for Mahendra Brothers at Zaveri Bazaar for about two years. Later, he moved to Ahmedabad to manage a plastic factory with his brother, which proved to be the gateway to success.

Tasting success

Gautam Adani bagged a massive deal of importing Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) materials, which proved to be a gamechanger. Over the years, he diversified the business into other sectors. In 1988, he established Adani Enterprises. The economic liberalisation of 1991 helped catapult Adani’s success to new heights.

Since then, the Adani Group has expanded into renewable power generation, ports and terminals, agriculture, gas distribution, housing finance, data center, logistics, airports, solar manufacturing, road, metro, and rail development, among a plethora of other businesses.

Personal life

Gautam Adani is married to Priti Adani. The couple is thoroughly invested in philanthropy and social work. He is the chairman of the Adani Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded in 1996. The foundation has a presence in over eighteen states, including over two thousand villages. Some notable projects of the Adani Foundation include Saksham, Swacchgraha, SuPoshan, and Udaan.

To fight the current pandemic, he donated INR 100 crore to the PM CARES Fund while also contributing INR 5 crore and 1 crore to the Gujarat CM Relief Fund and the Maharashtra CM Relief Fund respectively.

Gautam Adani has helped drive the country’s economic growth, created employment for thousands of people across the nation, and put India on the world map. The man has dedicated his life towards the country’s development and has been striving hard for the same.
