Anne Hathaway announced her second pregnancy on Instagram last week in a post that said “it was not a straight line” for either of her pregnancies.

The 36-year-old Oscar winner also shared her struggles in an interview with The Associated Press, revealing that infertility can be “deeply isolating”.

Hathaway is expecting her second child with actor, Adam Shulman.

The pair also have a three-year-old son together.

“I think that we have a very one-size-fits-all approach to getting pregnant.” Hathaway said.

“And you get pregnant and for the majority of cases, this is a really happy time. But a lot of people who are trying to get pregnant: That's not really the story. Or that's one part of the story. And the steps that lead up to that part of the story are really painful and very isolating and full of self-doubt. And I went through that.”

Hathaway took to Instagram to announce her pregnancy and say she was sending “extra love” to anybody going through fertility issues.

She opened up about her pregnancy experience at an event promoting her new Amazon TV series, Modern Love.

She said she was surprised to learn how many women were going through the same thing and how unspoken it can be.

“I was just aware of the fact that when it came time to post that I was pregnant, somebody was going to feel even more isolated because of it," Hathaway said. "And I just wanted them to know they have a sister in me.”

Anne Hathaway is not the only celebrity breaking down taboos by opening up about their own struggles.

Recently, Natalie Imbruglia, described how she was “blessed” with a pregnancy after help from a sperm donor and IVF treatment.

“For those of you that know me, this has been something I have wanted for a very long time and I’m blessed that this is possible with the help of IVF and a sperm donor-I won’t be saying anything more on that publicly. I’m so excited about this next adventure.” Imbruglia shared on Instagram.

Both women were showered with an outpouring of congratulatory messages, with many women feeling comfortable enough to share their own fertility struggles.
