Anne Robinson has explained the reasons behind her 2004 facelift.

The 76-year-old former The Weakest Link host, who has often spoke candidly about going under the knife, has compared the procedure to getting her ears pierced.

Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, she said: "Otherwise people at home are thinking: ‘Why does she look like that?’ It seems very unfair.

“If you have your ears pierced, what’s the difference?”

She added: “When I went to the surgeon, a rather nice one, he said there are some ‘definites’ that need doing, and some ‘maybes’ – and I said: ‘Do the definites and the maybes.’"

The presenter's comment come as she's set to host her first Countdown show on Monday.

She's replaced Nick Hewer on the Channel 4 programme and is the show's first first female host, rounding out an all-women lineup alongside Rachel Riley and Susie Dent.

It was also recently announced that The Weakest Link would be returning, this time with comedian Romesh Ranganathan at the helm and with celebrity contestants only.

Robinson said: "I’m delighted. It will be a very different Weakest Link because I honestly couldn’t get away with saying now what I used to say.”
