Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona Face-Off In A La Liga Fixture

Athletic Bilbao will welcome Barcelona at San Mames for the La Liga game on Thursday at 1:30 AM IST. The hosts have acquired the ninth spot with 21 points while the visitors have occupied the fifth position with 28 points.

Athletic Bilbao had 17 games out of which they won six games, lost eight and had a draw thrice, while Barcelona had 16 games, they were victorious on eight occasions, lost and drew four games each.


The Basque will be entering into this game after a comforting 1-0 win over Elche and will be aiming to pull off one more victory in the upcoming game.

After a 1-1 draw against Eibar, Barcelona managed to grab a 1-0 victory against SD Huesca in their last game. The Blaugrana are in a hunt of a series of victories to cement their place in the top four of the La Liga standings.

In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, Barcelona clearly has an upper hand as they won 36 games out of the 56 matches they played against each other. Athletic Bilbao was victorious on 12 occasions. The last encounter between the two teams took place last year when Barcelona came out victorious 1-0.


Unai Lopez is ruled out of this upcoming game. Peru Nolaskoain and Yeray Alvarez are currently injured and won’t be able to feature this week.

Philippe Coutinho, Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, and Ansu Fati are recovering from long-term injuries and won’t be included in the squad. Ousmane Dembele is set to start this game after making a return against Huesca.
