Baba Ramdev

Social media was abuzz last month with the news that Yoga guru Baba Ramdev had passed away in an accident on the Mumbai-Pune highway. There were even pictures of an SUV which was involved in an accident and of Baba Ramdev being carried on a stretcher from an ambulance. The Yoga guru, however, took to Twitter to rubbish the rumours and confirm that he was indeed alive. The photograph was a 2011 one, when the Baba had to be carried on a stretcher after he had collapsed post a seven day fast-unto-death.

What ever be the reason, over the years, these death hoaxes have become more elaborate and believable, with photographic and video evidences attached.

From Katrina Kaif and Baba Ramdev to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan a number of people – celebrities and others in news – have had their deaths written about on social media. We take a look at some of these famous personalities who have fallen prey to death hoaxes.
