Seems like budget traveling will cost heavily on time for passengers who land on the new airport at Bali!
Catering to passengers who travel through budget airlines, Bali will be building a new airport that will be located exactly opposite of the current popular Denpasar airport! Seems like budget traveling will make it time-consuming as the new airport will be located several hours away from the hotspots of the Island!
According to Nine, the new airport, several hours from popular resort locations of Kuta and Seminyak, will still provide quite the relief at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, currently struggling with the growing onslaught of daily flight arrivals.
Now, as they can’t build anymore runways, instead Indonesian Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has suggested upon the making of a new airport, which will also indirectly cause tourism to grow in the North of Bali as well. Rather than being concentrated on the South side only.
Moreover, reports suggest that this will in-turn also have around 70 per cent of flights from Australia coming in on this location, what with Jetstar carrying close to one million travellers between Australia and Indonesia last year.
“Means convenience of the airport in the south, make it better … in the north is service limitation,” Mr Sumadi told 9 News in response to the new airport location.
A Jetstar spokesperson told news.com.au the current Denpasar airport was popular with passengers.
“Our services into Denpasar are very popular, with customers loving the convenience the airport provides to hotels, beaches and restaurants, but we are open to understanding more about the Indonesian Government’s second airport proposal,” the spokesperson said.
“The Australian dollar spent in Bali is critically important to the Balinese economy, and the Governor is very aware of that, and the last thing he would want to do is upset the thousands and thousands of Australians who are flying themselves with a two-and-a-half hour drive to get to their hotel,” said Ross Taylor from the Perth-based Indonesia Institute, over the impact the new airport would cause on tourists.
