Bengal's COVID-19 toll rises to 8,172 with 51 more fatalities

(Eds: With fresh inputs) Kolkata, Nov 25 (PTI) The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal climbed to 8,172 after 51 more patients succumbed to the disease on Wednesday, a bulletin released by the state health department said.

The coronavirus tally mounted to 4,66,991 with 3,528 fresh cases, it said.

The discharge rate improved to 92.95 per cent after 3,605 recoveries were registered since Tuesday.

West Bengal now has 24,752 active cases.

So far, 4,34,067 peoplehave been cured of the disease in the state.

The metropolis accounted for 15 deaths, followed by North 24 Parganas (11), South 24 Parganas (10) and Howrah (5), among others, the bulletin said.

The city also registered the maximum of 880 new cases, while neighbouring North 24 Parganas recorded 865 infections,Hooghly (279), South 24 Parganas (241) and Howrah (194).

Since Tuesday, 44,631 samples have been tested in the state, taking the total number of such clinical examinations to 56,54,524, it added. PTI SCH RBT RBT
