Former Vice President and current 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden had some strong words for President Donald Trump on 60 Minutes Sunday night, in particular when talking about the president’s insistence that Russia did not meddle in the 2016 election in his favor, despite the entire American intelligence community saying otherwise.
When it was brought up that Trump continues to call Russian interference a “hoax,” Biden responded, “He’s an idiot in terms of saying that. Everybody knows this. Everybody knows it. Nobody doubts it.”
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said recently that they’ve already caught Russia and Iran trying to interfere in the 2020 election, and the Trump administration has warned that China and North Korea could do the same. Biden said he’s concerned about foreign interference in the upcoming election, and that he believes Trump welcomes it. Biden even alluded to Trump’s call for China to investigate him and his son, and Trump’s phone call in which he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the same thing.
“Everybody knows what’s going on,” Biden said. “Trump not only doesn’t want to do anything about it, he’s going out and asking for help.”
“He’s attacking your integrity,” Nora O’Donnell said to Biden. “Sure he is,” Biden responded, “but it’s coming from a man with no integrity, so it helps. No, I sincerely mean it. I never thought I’d talk about a president this way.”
Trump has also repeatedly called Biden corrupt, so Biden had a message for Trump regarding corruption.
“Mr. President, release your tax returns. Let’s see how straight you are, OK, old buddy?” Biden said. “I put out 21 years of mine. So show us your tax returns, bud. What are you hiding? You want to deal with corruption? Start to act like it. Release your tax returns or shut up.”
