Move over, Madhuri has arrived

After a handful of lukewarm movies, Madhuri made a path-breaking ‘second debut’ of sorts and this time she made the whole country shake a leg to the beats of Ek – Do – Teen. Tezaab went on to become a major success and much of it was attributed to Madhuri’s youthful beauty and flawless acting that pulled the masses to cinema halls in rural as well as metro areas alike. Bollywood started to feel the Madhuri wave, and producers lined up at her gates with offers of Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Tridev, and Dayawan.

Birthday Special: Madhuri Dixit Nene's journey on the silver screen

In the male dominated 90s, she was one mega female star who sold movies and balanced out the power in favor of the fairer sex. Without her, a run-of-the-mill Raja wouldn’t have gone to make the box-office collections it did.

After Sridevi, it was Madhuri who redefined the role of the female lead in Hindi cinema. Her absence from the silver screen created a void that could be filled only by her after her return.

The beauty turns a year younger today and we take a quick look through her astonishing journey in the art of cinema.
