Good news for those who are quaking at the idea of a musical-themed Oscar ceremony this Sunday: the show's producers hit at least one right note with the announcement that Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman will appear as presenters. Both of these Academy Award veterans have won Best Actor gold twice. And they might very will be handing a trophy to Daniel Day-Lewis, who might very well win for a history-making third time.

In a statement released this morning to Entertainment Weekly, the ceremony's producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Maron, said, "Between the two of them Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman have created more iconic characters than any other pair of actors in the world. Their participation in this year's Oscars completes a list of presenters and performers that truly represents that great breadth and depth of acting talent in film today."

Nicholson, whose smart-ass grin has been absent from the Academy Awards for several years, has been nominated 12 times and won three: Best Actor for his role as R.P. Murphy in 1975's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and the grumpy, sexist writer Melvin Udall in 1997's "As Good As It Gets," and Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of astronaut Garrett Breedlove in 1979's "Terms of Endearment." Hoffman has had seven nominations, winning Best Actor for his roles as a divorced dad in 1979's "Kramer vs. Kramer" and the title character in 1988's "Rainman."

Zadan and Meron produced 2007's "The Bucket List," the last film Nicholson had a starring role in, and have likely tapped both actors to present some of the night's most hefty prizes. The last time he presented at the ceremony, in 2008, Nicholson presented a clip reel highlighting every Best Picture winner in the history of the awards. This year, the two might very well be presenting Daniel Day-Lewis a Best Actor trophy for his performance in "Lincoln." He's widely seen as a lock on the prize and it would his third Oscar in the category -- a record.

Although there's no word about whether Hoffman and Nicholson have been roped into performing any musical numbers, one can only hope that a passionate drag rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" is in the cards.
