The Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer WAR broke another record, Chiranjeevi’s pre-independence drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy remained on the lower while Joker minted good amount of money at the box office.
WAR, broke the record on Gandhi Jayanti holiday when it took a thunderous opening from 4200 screens across India and collected Rs 53.35 crore on its first day surpassing the previous record held by the Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif starrer Thugs Of Hindostan, which holds the record for the highest opening day collection ever in Bollywood with Rs 52.25 crore (all version). The opening day collections of WAR is also the highest opening day collection of 2019 beating the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat, which collected Rs 41.80 crore on its first day. Due to the normal working day, WAR dropped on the second day but still minted a staggering amount of Rs 24.35 crore. The hardcore action film remained stable on Friday and collected Rs 22.45 crore while it shot up on Saturday with a mind-blowing figure of Rs 27.60 crore in all versions.
As per early trade estimates, WAR showed yet another dynamic growth on Sunday as compared to Saturday. The action drama starring Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor grew by 50-55% and should collect somewhere between Rs 35-36 crore, scoring the highest Sunday of 2019 and highest weekend of 2019, bringing the 5 days total to Rs 163-165 crore. WAR is now the 5th highest grossing film of 2019 beating Dream Girl (Rs 133 crore), Gully Boy (Rs 138 crore), Super 30 (Rs 147.35 crore), Chhichhore (Rs 148 crore), Saaho (Rs 151 crore), Total Dhamaal (Rs 155 crore) and Kesari (Rs (155.60 crore).
The budget of WAR is Rs 200 Crore (Production Cost: 180 Crore, Prints & Advertising Cost: 20 Crore). The action film is directed by Siddarth Anand and is produced by Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy dominated the Southern region but Chiranjeevi and Amitabh Bachchan starrer failed to click in the Hindi version. Met with average reviews, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy collected a poor Rs 2.60 crore on its first day from 1200 screens in North India, followed by a drop on second day with Rs 1.75 crore, Rs 1.40 crore on the third day, Rs 1.50 crore on fourth day.
As per early analysis, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy grew slightly with Rs 1.75 crore, bringing the five days collections to Rs 9 crore.
Welcomed with phenomenal reviews at the Venice film festival, Joaquin Phoenix starrer Joker, a spin-off character of the super hero film, Batman, impressed the audience at the city multiplexes. As per trade estimates, Joker collected a very good Rs 5.75 crore on its first day and should pick up as the days progresses. This is a very good number considering Joker not being an action-oriented super hero film but a dark psychological thriller.
Due to the normal working day, Joker dropped on the second day, minting Rs 3.75 crore but picked up again on third day with Rs 4.25 crore. The collections grew further on Saturday with Rs 5.25 crore and Rs 6 (estimated), bringing the overall total to Rs 25-26 crore in three days.
