Due to Christmas eve, Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani 2 gained traction on second Tuesday at the box office to become the highest grossing film of the Mardaani franchise.
Sequel to 2014’s sleeper hit, Mardaani, Mardaani 2 earned fabulous reviews, Mardaani 2 from both the audience and the critics. Though it started slow across India, it picked up on later, bringing the first week collections to Rs 28.05 crore.
It faced the big release, Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 3 and the footfalls went down on second Friday with Rs 1.15 crore but went up on second Saturday with Rs 1.95 crore and Rs 2.55 crore on Sunday in the multiplexes across urban centers. The earnings were stable on Monday with Rs 1.25 crore but went up to Rs 1.50 crore on Tuesday, bringing the total to around Rs 36.50 crore and will cross the lifetime collections of Mardaani (Rs 35.65 crore).
Mardaani 2 has also crossed 50 crore worldwide making it a profitable film for the makers. Mardaani 2 is directed by Gopi Puthran who also wrote the original film and is being produced by Aditya Chopra. Mardaani 2 is made on a budget of Rs 30 Crore (Production Cost: 20 Crore & Prints & Advertising Cost: 10 Crore)
