A snack lover was left in shock after finding what might be Britain’s biggest crisp.

Daniel Heginbotham, 44, an auditor from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, picked out the six-inch (15cm) crisp from a packet he bought in a supermarket on the way to work.

Instead of eating the snack, he intends to place it inside a display case.

He purchased the 150g packet of The Best Sweet Chilli Ridged Crisps from a Morrisons store in Kirkby-in-Ashfield for £1.

Although he initially planned to have the snack with his lunch, his hunger got the better of him earlier in the day so he opened the packet in the middle of the morning.

Mr Heginbotham described the moment he got hold of the massive crisp.

"I pulled it out and it kept going – it was a lot longer than I thought it was going to be,” he said.

"So I went and got a tape measure; it was six inches long. I was quite happy - it was the biggest crisp I had ever seen seen.

"Everybody wants to find a big crisp, don't they?"

He said his workmates soon surrounded his desk to get a glimpse of the already famous crisp.

"Some weren't that interested at all,” he said. “But I quickly locked it away, just in case somebody crushed it.

"I think I'm going to put it in a little display case.

"I'm not saying it's the biggest ever, but you never know."

Mr Heginbotham said he usually buys a different flavour but decided to go for chilli when he bought the packet last Friday.

"I'm not sure why I brought them – I was drawn to them that day,” he said.

The world’s largest crisp is in Blackfoot, Idaho, in the US, and spans 25 inches (63cm) by 14 inches (35cm).

According to Guinness World Records, the largest bag of crisps weighs 1,141kg and was made by Corkers Crisps in Pymoor, Cambridgeshire, in September 2013.
