Katrina Kaif

(Left) Katrina Kaif from the movie Sarkar (2005). Despite not being a naturally gifted actress, Katrina has managed to become one of the leading stars in B-Town, owing to her hardwork and commitment. (Right) Katrina’s scintillating dance performance from the movie Fitoor (2016). She is sensuous, enthralling, and a joy to behold on screen. No wonder all her dance numbers have become a hit.

How Bollywood's leading ladies changed over the years

Gone are the days when heroines over the age of 30 were considered antique and suffered a decline in demand in the glamorous entertainment industry. The top five names gracing Bollywood’s most-paid list of actresses are of the age 30 and above, with Deepika Padukone heading the squad. Most of these stars boast of a career spanning ten years and above, and they have been enjoying the view from the top for a while, surviving stiff competition from the youngsters.

Stars like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra have extended their horizons lately, trying their luck in Hollywood as well. Some of the stars have tied the knot, like Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, etc., but have not given up their career. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is still active on the scene, balancing motherhood and career with great aplomb.

These are women who have carved a niche for themselves in an industry which has always been male-dominated. It is indeed a pity that they are paid less than their male counterparts, despite proving their mettle with women-centric films. Unlike the leading ladies of yesteryears, the top heroines today have openly come forward questioning the gender pay gap, in an attempt to bridge that divide.
