A lot of great things is associated with the name Gaurav Sharma – World Champion, Commonwealth Champion, Asian champion and European champion in Powerlifting.This is not the end you will get to know more about him.
Gaurav Sharma hails from Delhi and was born on 29th May 1987. He is the son of Shri Shrawan Kumar Sharma.Gaurav by now has represented India Internationally a lot of times and made us proud.
He started off as a Weightlifter and later moved into Powerlifting. He aims to increase the popularity of Powerlifting in our country so that many get to know more about it and show Intrest towards it. He started off at a very early age when he was just 17.
He has an en-number of achievements which he holds.
Stood at 12th position in Junior World Powerlifting championship-2007 under 125+ KG category which was held in France.
Won 4 Gold medals at Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship-2007 under 125+ KG category which was held in New Zealand.
Won 1 Silver medal at Asian Bench Press championship 2008 under 125+ KG category which was hosted in Hong Kong.
Stood at 9th place in World Powerlifting Championship 2010 under 125+ KG category and it was held in Czech Republic.
Achieved 1st Place with 3 Gold medals at Senior World Powerlifting 2016 for under 140+ KG category at London.
Secured 1st Position with 2 Gold Medals at European Powerlifting Championship 2018 under 140+ KG category which was held in Germany.
He was awarded and felicitated by some amazing people. He has been fortunate enough to have met some inspiring people who have inspired him at one point in his life. He was awarded by Our honourable Chief Minister Rajnath Singh, Met Mr. Santhosh Gangwar – Minister of State of Finance, Felicitated by Mr.Sarbananda Sonowal – Chief Minister of Assam, Shrimati Krishna Raj- Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
He has also met Arun Jaithley and Nitin Gadkari,Sh.Najeeb Jang, Kapil Dev ,Abhishek Bachan,Ajay Devgan,Vijender Singh,Shri.Lal Krishna Advani,Ram Dev Baba, Olympian Medalist Wrestler Yogeshwar and many more such great personalities.
He has been a part of lot of news articles,channels which helped him in popularizing Powerlifting among many. His good deeds are many.He has been serving in a NGO as a vice president which is Veer Bhumi NGO.There are a lot of social work that takes places like Free Education,Health Care,Child and Family care and alot more.
When we asked him about the major challenge he faced, he replied “I have undergone 4-5 operations in my whole body,my bones are fractured.There was a time when my doctor stopped me from playing as my health condition was worse,but I didn’t give up and I stood up again played and won inspite of such severe accidents that I went through.”
That’s the Spirit of a Champion !
