2020 was the year everyone’s life changed in more ways than anyone could have ever imagined. It was also the year Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers collaborated under their label Shondaland for Netflix’s steaming hot drama, Bridgerton. The young-ish show now enjoys a cult following, all thanks to it’s gorgeous and beautiful leading man, Regé-Jean Page, who essayed the formidable Simon Bassett, the Duke Of Hastings. Netflix’s period romance peppered with generous under-the-sheets action, has got a handsome 12 Emmy nominations, with Regé getting a nod in the Best Leading Actor, Drama category.
As the tribe of Bridgerton lovers grows, the cast is currently shooting in the United Kingdom for Season 2, even as Netflix has announced that Season 3 and 4 is on the cards.
But sadly enough, the man who’s famous derriere flashed across mobile and TV screens on Netflix, around the world, announced that he’s not on board for Season 2. Will the Emmy nomination streak change things? Will the centrepiece of Bridgerton return to reclaim? Fans across the social media spectrum sure hope so.
After the announcement, Regé treated his fans to a delicious post on Instagram with a befitting caption. “It’s a joy to be seen,” he wrote. We concur!
Speaking to Variety in April this year, soon after announcing his exit from the big-ticket show, Page had said, "Simon was this bomb of a one-season antagonist, to be reformed and to find his true self through Daphne. I think one of the bravest things about the romance genre is allowing people a happy ending." Sigh! Though Page will be missed much in the upcoming seasons, this Emmy nod is no less than a ‘happy ending’ for sure.
