Coronavirus Janta Curfew news: India is observing 14-hour lockdown after PM Modi appealed for the same on Thursday evening. On Saturday, India witnessed the biggest surge in Coronavirus cases as 80 more people were reported positive for COVID-19. As per the latest data from the Ministery of Health, there were 324 positive cases in India so far, of which 296 are currently active. Apart from this 22 have been cured or discharged while 4 have died. Maharashtra and Kerala have the highest number of cases. New cases were reported from Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and other parts of the country as well. PM Modi has urged people to participate in Janta Curfew and make it a success. In a series of tweets last night, PM Narendra Modi urged migrants not to travel to their hometowns warning them that such a move could spread the highly contagious infection more. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan and Punjab governments have announced lockdown in the states from March 21 -31. The Gujarat government has decided to lock down four cities – Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara till March 25. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said similar step could be taken in deemed necessary. Delhi Metro services will not be available on Monday, March 23 from 10 am to 4 pm. Maharashtra also has called for similar measures and a virtual lockdown in 4 big cities.
Indian Railways has notified that no passenger train will start from the station of origin from midnight to 10 pm on March 22 during the Janata Curfew. Airline companies as well have announced their reduced or complete disruption in their operations during the Janata Curfew.
