Looks like Jon M. Chu is having a great time making his new movie as he’s just named his son after it.
The Crazy Rich Asians director is in the middle of production for In the Heights and he’s given his newborn son Jonathan the middle name ‘Heights’.
38-year-old Chu and his wife, Kristin Hodge, announced Jonathan Heights Chu’s birthday via Twitter on Saturday morning.
“I took the day off yesterday from shooting @Lin_Manuel’s #InTheHeightsMovie so I could witness my beautiful wife give birth to our first son… Introducing Jonathan Heights Chu (aka Heights),” Chu wrote.
“May your hands always be connected to others but your view be towards the skies.”

Chu, who also has a two-year-old daughter with Hodge called Willow, gave more background to the birth on Instagram.
“At 12:02 PM on Friday July 26th 2019 he landed onto our planet by way of New York City. With a backpack full of bravery and rockets fueled by resilience strapped onto his sneakers, Willow’s little rebel brother knows no limits and only looks in one direction: UP,” he wrote.
“One day, he will show us the way to the stars and beyond. In the meantime he’s our little astronomer. Introducing Jonathan Heights Chu,” Chu continued.
Also it was our anniversary today. So we celebrated with cafeteria food and it was just as romantic. Who coulda predicted this? pic.twitter.com/9xqO4JA2cR— Jon M. Chu (@jonmchu) July 28, 2019
“The second member of the Chuniverse Space Academy. Oh, and I’m exhausted… but not half as exhausted as my wife Kristin who deserves a damn award for her achievements today!”
The director is busy bringing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony award-winning musical to life which is set in the Washington Heights area of New York City and revolves around two couples in a predominantly Latino community.
Miranda will star alongside Anthony Ramos, Stefanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco and Corey Hawkins.
In the Heights is set for a June 26, 2020, release.
