Sexual intercourse with a woman against her will, without her consent, by coercion, misrepresentation or fraud or at a time when she has been intoxicated or duped, or is of unsound mental health is what has been described as Section 375. The second season of Criminal Justice Season 2 deep-dives into the sexual abuse which is unfortunately very prominent in our society.

Criminal Justice Season 2 tells the story of a famous lawyer, Bikram Chandra (Jisshu Sengupta) who is murdered by his wife Anu (Kirti Kulhari). While the world and even the Lawyer community goes against her, Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) plays the defendant to solve what is actually the true story behind the “why-done-it” murder with solid evidences and innumerable witnesses.

I have always believed that the purpose of cinema is not just to entertain but also educate and empower the audience. While a high-profile case goes through media trials and make-up theories built by the public, accusing the victims without knowing the facts is very common, Criminal Justice Season 2 succeeds in deep-diving the investigation without compromising the quality the content of the court-room drama. The 8 episodes drama is a slow-burn web-series for which you need to have patience to watch it as the later episodes unravel the real story.

Criminal Justice Season 2 is one such hair-raising web-series which is definitely difficult to digest as it gives you goosebumps with an eye-popping experience. Directed by Rohan Sippy (Bluffmaster) and Arjun Mukherjee,  Criminal Justice Season 2 explores the sensitive topic and throws the ball in the court and let audience decide what is right or wrong. Screenplay is the hero with nail-biting moments. Art direction is fine while Cinematography is just about okay. There is a very good twist in the end which of course I cannot divulge but becomes the crux of the entire drama.

Pankaj Tripathi is a knight in shining armor. Watch out for him in the second half when he questions the witnesses in the courtroom. It is unforgettable performance which should be lauded for his sheer brilliance. Kirti Kulhari and Anupriya Goenka are simply marvelous as she gets better with each film. Among the other actors – Jisshu Sengupta, Deepti Naval, Mita Vashisht, Ashish Vidyarti, Shilpa Shukla and even the actors who played the married police officers ( Kalyanee Mulay and the other actor) were good with natural performance. I loved Khushboo Atre who played Pankaj Triptahi’s wife

On the whole, Criminal Justice Season 2 is a bold and raw court room drama which should be applauded for its genuine attempt. Highly recommended 3.5/5
