There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Amitabh Bachchan, Javed Jaffrey and Katrina Kaif starrer Boom, Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan starrer Khoobsurat and Aditya Roy Kapur and Parineeti Chopra starrer Dawaat E Ishq. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Probably the weakest film of his career, Kaizad Gustad directed Boom was the kind of film which Amitabh Bachchan would never think of doing again. No plot, terrible screenplay and terrible acting only added woes. As a result, the film bombed at the box office, collecting Rs 6.23 crore against a budget of Rs 8 crore.
When you are remaking a cult like Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khoobsurat, plenty of comparisons will definitely arise. The question is whether Khoobsurat (2009) was on par with the original one ? – Well, It was just about there but neither it did full justice to the original screenplay nor was the acting was even comparable to classic. The film starts off well with couple of scenes standing out. But that is it , nothing more than this. The problem is that we have admired the original part so much that this film , even though, is bound to be compared, falls short of it. Due to high budget, the film could manage to do “Average” business at the box office, minting Rs 25 crore against a budget of Rs 30 crore.
Dawaat E Ishq (2014)
Dawaat-E-Ishq was a nice attempt in sending out a clear message of dowry system which is very much existing in India. It was an opportunity gone miss because of the weak direction and poor script. The only silver lining was stupendous performance by Aditya Roy Kapoor and Parineeta Chopra. The movie could not do well at the box office and termed as “Flop”, earning Rs 25.58 crore against a budget of Rs 32 crore.
