There were five significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Chennai Express, Pardes, Koi..Mil Gaya, Singh Is Kinng and Gangs Of Wasseypur. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Directed by Subhash Ghai, Pardes opened to a fabulous start all over India and ended its theater run with Rs 23 crore against a budget of Rs 10 crore and turned out to be “Super-Hit” at the box office.
Koi..Mil Gaya (2003)
After Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Rakesh Roshan started sci-fi genre in India with Koi.. Mil Gaya, which was a remake of Steven Spielberg directed E.T (Extra-terrestrial). Hrithik Roshan played a mentally challenged boy which won the heart of both the critics and the audience and was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2003. The sci-fi drama collected Rs 47 crore against a budget of Rs 30 crore.
Chennai Express (2009)
Despite the criticism, the Rohit Shetty directed Chennai Express broke box office records for Hindi films in both India surpassing Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots to become the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time for sometime which was later broken by other films later. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express ended its lifetime collections with Rs 227 crores.
Singh Is Kinng (2008)
If you want to get entertained in life, you make sure you watch Singh Is Kinng . Written, directed and produced by Aneez Bazmi, Singh Is Kinng was the perfect dose of comedy filled with drama, wonderful acting and songs. Singh Is Kinng turned out to be super-hit at the box office, collecting Rs 70 crore against a budget of Rs 50 crore.
Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 2 (2012)
Probably the best gangster movie ever made in India and probably the best movie ever made by Anurag Kashyap, Gangs Of Wasseypur Part 2, shaped the career of actors like Manoj Bajpai, Richa Chadha, Rajkummar Rao, Vineet Kumar Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Huma Qureshi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who became a sensation for playing the role of “Faizal”. The passion, dedication and focus of Anurag Kashyap in Gangs Of Wasseypur series earned him recognition from Hollywood legendary director Martin Scorsese in form of a letter. The movie collected Rs 23 crore against a budget of Rs 18 crore.
