There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor starrer Don and Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta starrer Jaanemann – Lets Fall In Love Again. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol rose to fame with Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The romantic-drama changed Shah Rukh and Kajol’s life and made them a star overnight. Such was the impact of the film that it ran in Maratha Mandir theater, Mumbai for a jaw-dropping 20 years. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is considered to be “All Time Blockbuster”, collecting Rs 53.31 crore against a budget of Rs 4 crore.
A remake of classic, Don, Farhan Akhtar took the responsibility to adapt it and remade it in to his own style while Shah Rukh Khan stepped into the shoes of Amitabh Bachchan. Result – The action-thriller turned out to be a big hit at the box office, minting Rs 50 crore against a budget of Rs 38 crore.
Jaaneman – Lets Fall In Love Again (2006)
Jaaneman – Lets Fall In Love Again faced a clash with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don, released on the same day. The romantic drama did not do well in the initial days but picked up later after EID. However, since the damage was already done, Jaaneman – Lets Fall In Love Again suffered at the box office inspite of critics praising the performance of Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta.
The romantic drama summed up the total to Rs 25 crore with a budget of Rs 35 crore.
