There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Priyanka Chopra starrer Mary Kom, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher starrer A Wednesday and Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai starrer Kuch Na Kaho. Let us check how these films fared at the box office.
Directed by debutante director Omung Kumar, Mary Kom was based on the life of boxer Mary Kom, who helped is a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships. The movie depicts the struggle and pain she went through before becoming the boxing champion. The biopic drama opened to fabulous response at the box office and Priyanka Chopra’s performance was appreciated. Released in 2014, Mary Kom turned out to be “Hit’, collecting Rs 61.43 crore against a budget of Rs 38 crore.
Released in 2008, A Wednesday was directed by Neeraj Pandey and starred Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher in key roles. The taut thriller, based on events between 2 pm-4 pm on a normal Wednesday, turned out to be a surprise hit of the year, thanks to solid screenplay, outstanding performance and superb direction. A Wednesday collected a very good Rs 11.72 crore against a budget of just Rs 3 crore.
Kuch Na Kaho
Lovely pairing of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, Rohan Sippy’s direction after success of Bluffmaster and tuneful score of Shankar-Eshaan-Loy could not help Kuch Na Kaho, released in 2003, from failing at the box office. The poor screenplay and wafer-thin plot did not impress the audience and the movie turned out to be a “Flop” at the box office. Kuch Na Kaho collected a mere Rs 6.45 crore against a budget of Rs 8 crore.
