There were three significant Bollywood films which were released today in the past years – Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor starrer Raja Hindustani, Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri starrer Rockstar and Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Rock On 2. Let us check how the films fared at the box office.
Raja Hindustani (1996)
Directed by Dharmesh Darshan, Raja Hindustani was a complete masala entertainer which tells the story of a local cab driver from a small town who falls in love with a rich young woman. Though the film was full of melodrama and inconsistent story line, audience loved it. The songs played a major role in the success of Raja Hindustani which ended being a “Blockbuster” at the box office, collecting Rs 43.14 crore against a budget of Rs 5.75 crore.
Ranbir Kapoor made a comeback in the year 2011 after disappointment in form of Anjaana Anjaani. Ranbir Kapoor’s memorable performance, brilliant direction by Imtiaz Ali and rocking songs from A.R.Rahman made Rockstar fairly successful at the box office, minting Rs 69 crore against a budget of Rs 68 crore.
Rock On 2 (2016)
Sequel to the hit Rock On, Rock On 2 was a lame attempt to revive the spirit of rock band “Magik” that audience loved in the first part. The music, screenplay and even the performances were a let down and film did not even manage to do break-even business, becoming a disaster at the box office, earning Rs 10.41 crore against a budget of Rs 45 crore
