Demi Lovato has revealed that her grandfather has passed away.
On Wednesday, the “Anyone” singer posted a touching tribute on Instagram featuring a series of photos of her grandfather, Perry Hart, who died earlier this week following years of health issues.
In the caption for the post, Lovato opened up about her relationship with her grandfather and described how much “it hurt” that her family was unable to give him a proper funeral due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. She did not confirm whether her grandfather had Covid-19.
“Woke up to the news that my Grandpa Perry passed away early this morning,” Lovato wrote alongside a slideshow of photos taken throughout the years.
“He’s been sick for a couple years now so although I’m relieved he is out of pain, it still hurts to think our family won’t get to say goodbye with a proper funeral for a while. But that’s the reality during this pandemic.”
The pop star went on to describe her grandfather as a man who “loved God FIERCELY” and said he was one of the “best preacher’s I’ve ever had the honour in witnessing spread the word of God” [sic].
“I love you Grandpa. I’m sorry we didn’t take more pictures together but I have so many memories to make me smile until we meet again someday. Rest easy. Love you,” she concluded.
Among the photos Lovato shared was a throwback of her grandfather in his younger years, as well as an image of the preacher giving her a kiss on the cheek at an event.
The “I’m Ready” singer's post was inundated with messages of support from fans and famous friends.
“I’m sorry for your loss, stay strong,” one person commented, while another added: “He’s in a better place now ! Love you Demi.”
Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza, also paid tribute to her father on social media by posting a photo of them together.
“Sure am gonna miss you, Chief,” she wrote. “I’m broken-hearted but happy that you’re no longer suffering here on earth.
“You were the best Daddy in the whole world. I’ll love you forever.”
