TV presenter and singer Denise Van Outen revealed recently that she has a secret condiment addiction that she just can’t stop.

Speaking on her podcast Before We Say I Do, Van Outen said that she just loves to keep things hot in the kitchen – by adding mustard to everything!

“I just like the fire in my mouth,” she explained.

Van Outen was trying out cooking therapy with her other half Eddie Boxshall for the podcast. Charlotte Hastings from Therapy Kitchen asked them to cook a dish together, which showed their different attitudes to food – and additional condiments!

Boxshall is the cook in their relationship, but Van Outen says he gets annoyed with her addiction to the yellow sauce.

“The only thing he does really is he gets annoyed that I like mustard — English mustard — on everything,” she told Hastings.

“And he gets really annoyed because he’ll cook something, and I just put mustard all over it!”

Asked why Van Outen’s habit annoyed him, Boxshall said it was because he put a lot of effort into every meal he makes for his partner of seven years.

He said: “I spend a lot of time with my spices, salt and pepper, the seasoning, making sure everything's right and then I put my dish down and then its wallop, a massive spoonful of English mustard on the side. I'm like: ‘Really? Is this what's going to happen with my food? Now you can't taste everything that I've done!’”

In an attempt to curb Van Outen’s mustard cravings, Boxshall has had to try his own kind of intervention.

“I have to hide it,” he confessed to Hastings!

“I feel like one of those parents that hide sweets on the top shelf or on top of the cupboard so she can't find it.”

During the therapy session for their podcast, Hastings attempted to get to the bottom of why cooking is so important for Boxshall, suggesting he might be hoping for ‘something’ in return.

“I do like cooking, and I do like it when she is satisfied,” he admitted.

“And of course, if I'm doing something that puts her in a happy and loving mood, then who knows?”

Unfortunately for Boxshall, Van Outen said she’s not usually in a mood to be sexy after she’s eaten one of his meals.

She joked: “To be honest with you, I normally go into a carb coma and I just go to sleep!”

While the session made Van Outen realise she probably should do more cooking, she said she wasn’t sure if Eddie would like her recipes.

“I suppose really, I should be making a bit of an effort — maybe cook for Eddie at some point — but I just can't compete with his dishes to be honest,” she said.

“And the thing is, anything I'm going to make has got to be mustard based!”
