Did Karan Johar Hint at ‘Dostana 2’ in New Cryptic Video?

Karan Johar just posted a cryptic teaser video on Twitter, saying that Dharma Productions will be announcing a new film tomorrow.

“Got a ring to it, doesn't it? You know what it is! Stay tuned and watch this space - announcement coming your way tomorrow! @apoorvamehta18 @dharmamovies,” wrote Karan.

Going by the intriguing video, is Karan hinting at a new film taking forward the Dostana franchise? Dostana 2, perhaps? Twitterati is quite convinced it is, based on the replies to Karan’s post.

Speculations have been rife in industry circles in the last few weeks that Dharma had signed on Kartik Aaryan and Janhvi Kapoor to star in the sequel to the hit 2008 romantic comedy Dostana. According to Pinkvilla, the third co-star in the film will be a debutant actor. The film is said to not be related to the first edition in terms of the story, but would take forward the subject of sexual orientation and the franchise.

Word is that John Abraham, who starred in Dostana, alongside Priyanka Chopra and Abhishek Bachchan has also been roped in for the next film in the franchise.

Set in Miami, Florida, Dostana, which released in 2008, follows the story of two men (John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan) who pretend to be gay so that they could rent an apartment, but end up falling in love with their roommate (Priyanka Chopra).

In January this year, there were rumours that Alia Bhatt had been cast in the lead for Dostana 2, but Karan had rubbished the speculation in a Tweet. “For the record.....NO ONE has been officially approached for DOSTANA 2!!!! Some thoughts and ideas are underway but nothing official has moved,” he wrote.

Dostana director Tarun Mansukhani had been wanting to make a sequel to the film for years, but had never been able to lock the script.
