CNN’s Don Lemon had a hard time keeping it together Wednesday night when talking about Donald Trump’s geographical gaffe. Speaking to the Shale Insight Conference in Pittsburgh earlier in the day, Trump said this:
“And we’re building a wall on the border of New Mexico,” Trump said. “And we’re building a wall in Colorado. We’re building a beautiful wall. A big one that really works. That you can’t get over. You can’t get under.”
Naturally, Twitter had a field day with the slip-up.
My family lives in CO, so I feel I must warn them about the impending invasion. I knew those Kansans were trouble! Or is it the New Mexicans? And, tx @Broncos & @johnelway for paying for this pricey, yet much-needed wall. My blood will always run orange & blue. #ColoradoWall— Debra Lynn Shelton 📒📚🎼🎵 (@debralynnlazar) October 24, 2019
Even Colorado’s governor joined in on the mockery.
Well this is awkward ...Colorado doesn’t border Mexico. Good thing Colorado now offers free full day kindergarten so our kids can learn basic geography pic.twitter.com/bEXLDJYUku— Jared Polis (@GovofCO) October 23, 2019
As for Lemon, he could barely get out a sentence through the laughter.
“Colorado? He’s building a wall in Colorado. I probably don’t have to tell you that Colorado is not on the border,” Lemon said. “Colorado is not on the border with Mexico, but I can’t wait to see that wall.”
Lemon then mocked one of Trump’s signature campaign promises.
Who’s gonna pay for that one?” Lemon asked. “It’s on the border with New Mexico. Maybe New Mexico is going to pay for the wall. Who’s going to pay for the wall?” A voice from offscreen answered, “New Mexico!”
