A drunk-driver has admitted ploughing through tents at a campsite in Wales, telling the court that he “needs to be punished”.

Jake Waterhouse, 26, admitted the crash at the beauty spot which left a woman fighting for her life and injuring three other campers.

Anna Evans is still critically ill in hospital after Waterhouse drove a friend's Subaru Impreza through her tent in the early hours of Monday morning.

He appeared at Llandudno Magistrates Court over the incident at the Rhyd y Galen campsite in Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.

Waterhouse admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a driving licence, driving without insurance and failing to provide a breath specimen.

Prosecutor Gareth Parry said Waterhouse had been drinking heavily before getting behind the wheel and had left Mrs Evans with "life threatening injuries”.

Carys Parry, defending, said that Waterhouse "takes full responsibility for the devastating events at the campsite”, adding: "He is truly and deeply remorseful for his actions.

“His thoughts the last two days have been with the victim of his offending and her family.

“He accepts he is facing a lengthy sentence as a result of his actions.
