The Duchess of Cambridge has thanked royal fans for their "kind wishes" on her birthday as she turns 39 today (January 9).

Kate and William's official Instagram account Kensington Royal shared a lovely photo of the duchess smiling beneath a floral-print mask and waving at the camera during a recent public engagement.

In the caption, the royals also paid tribute to all the staff working tirelessly and selflessly on the front line of the pandemic.

"Thank you for your kind wishes on The Duchess' birthday," the post read. "Birthdays have been very different in recent months, and our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time."

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh posted a sweet birthday message to Kate on The Royal Family Instagram account alongside two images of the duchess. One features the duchess during her visit to the Scouts, while the other shows Kate chatting to the monarch at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.

"Wishing The Duchess of Cambridge a very happy birthday today!" the message read. "The Duchess is pictured with Her Majesty The Queen at The Chelsea Flower Show in 2019."

The duke and duchess were briefly reunited with Her Majesty at Windsor Castle at the end of their royal train tour in December. The royal couple, travelling on the Queen's train, met with volunteers, care home staff, teachers, schoolchildren and young people to hear their experiences, sacrifices and the inspiring work they have maintained throughout this challenging year.

Prince Charles and Camilla also wished the duchess a Happy Birthday on Instagram, posting an image of Kate mid-laugh and looking very summery.

"Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge!" the caption read.

It's believed that William and Kate and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, have remained at their country residence of Anmer Hall on the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk as the nation entered lockdown 3 last week. The Cambridge family also celebrated Christmas at their country house.

Happy Birthday to the Duchess of Cambridge!
