Everton transfer business pleases club legend Leon Osman

Leon Osman has liked what he has seen from Everton before a ball has been kicked this season

Marcel Brands has delivered again.

That’s the view of Everton legend Leon Osman, who believes the director of football has made a success of his third transfer window at the helm.

With Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph through the door and more activity likely with a week left in the transfer window, Osman believes the Dutchman has pulled another blinder in the market.

“I think it's been a good transfer window for Everton,” he said.

“For the last three windows since Marcel and Marco Silva got together, we have done very good business in the transfer market.

“Bringing in Andre Gomes early was smart business and Fabian Delph is another marquee signing. We’ve also made good money on players leaving the club.

“Andre played an important role last season, to secure his services and give him a good pre-season was very important.

“He’s not really had that opportunity through injuries, so he’s ready to go.”

The Toffees will be confident of improving on last season’s eighth-placed finish as Marco Silva embarks on a second full season in the hot seat.

With plans for a new stadium at Bramley Moore Docks unveiled in recent days, mood around the club has rarely been more buoyant.

Osman believes owner Farhad Moshiri’s ambition for the club is being borne out in the transfer market and recalls times under David Moyes when hopes were just as high.

“It’s an important time and there is a buzz around the training ground,” he said.

“You want to strengthen, especially when you’re linked with really good players from other clubs.

“You can see what the club is trying to achieve when you’re linked with top players from top clubs so it does become exciting in that week before the transfer deadline.

"I think you've always got to strive to be at the very top. Everton have invested an awful lot of money in the team and are still pushing ahead with the new stadium.

“What tends to happen when you start talking about new stadiums is the investment in the squad dies off a little bit.

“That's certainly not the case at Everton at the moment. Money has been heavily invested and the club is looking in a very good position.”
