2020 started with a bang. Like 2019, 2020 saw a blockbuster in form of Tanhaji-The Unsung Warrior. However, there were decent to average earners which disappointed at the box office.
With an interesting star cast comprising of Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Kunal Khemu and Anil Kapoor, Malang took a fair opening at the box office and subsequently performed well over the weekdays to post a healthy total with around Rs 60 crore (approx). Directed by Mohit Suri, Malang was made on a budget of Rs 50 crore which ensured it returned good profits to its makers at the end of the day.
Shikara – 7th February
From the veteran director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has given us cult classics like Parinda and 1947-A Love Story is back with Shikara after a gap of 13 years of gap. Starring Sadia and Adil Khan in a lead position, Shikara has opened on a poor response and could not sustain at the box office, closing out at Rs 7.25 crore.
Love Aaj Kal-14th November
Imtiaz Ali is known as a maestro in making romantic films and the director succeeds with each and every film he makes, whether it is Socha Na Tha, Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Highway or Tamasha. Unfortunately, he disappointed with much expected Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal (2020). Though it became the highest opening film of Kartik Aaryan, the film suffered big time collecting just Rs 40 crore , against a budget of Rs 65 crore.
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan-21st February
Ayushmann Khurrana is one such actor who has driven the Indian Cinema to a different level with the quality of films he delivered with Vicky Donor, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, Article 15 , Dream Girl and now Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan. Earned with good reviews, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan was able to cross the 60 crore milestone against a budget of Rs 50 crore.
Produced by Dharma Productions along with Shashank Khaitaan and Apoorv Mehta and also starring Bhumi Pednekar, Bhoot was the second collaboration of Vicky Kaushal with Karan Johar after Lust Stories. The movie earned average reviews and was able to touch the 30 crore milestone crossing its budget of Rs 30 crore.
