The health of Former President Pranab Mukherjee continues to remain critical at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi.
Mukherjee, who tested positive for COVID-19, underwent an ‘emergency life-saving surgery for a brain clot’ and he is currently on ventilator support, hospital authorities said on Tuesday, 11 August.
“Former President Pranab Mukherjee who underwent emergency surgery for brain clot on 10 August, has not shown any improvement and his health status has worsened. He remains on ventilatory support. His health continues to remain critical,” the hospital said in a statement on Tuesday evening, as quoted by ANI.
Tested COVID-19 Positive During a Visit for a Separate Procedure
Mukherjee had on Monday tweeted saying he has tested positive for COVID-19, during a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure. The 84-year-old asked those who came in contact with him in the past week to self-isolate and also get tested.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Army's Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital to enquire about the health of the former president, reported ANI.
Mukherjee is the latest to join the list of politicians who tested positive for COVID-19, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Karnataka Heath Minister B Sriramulu.
Meanwhile, with a single-day spike of 62,064 cases, India’s total COVID-19 tally crossed 22 lakh with over 44,000 deaths on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
