Police have launched an investigation after video footage appears to show a man smashing a dead fox against a van window.

The footage, filmed on Boxing Day, shows a group of people approaching members of Hunt Saboteurs Association (HSA) who were in a van.

A man is seen sprinting towards the van attempting to hide his face and brandishing the dead fox, before repeatedly smash the animal over the window.

According to the Sheffield and West Yorkshire Hunt Sabs the incident took place place when they tried to stop the Badsworth Hunt, in Kirk Smeaton, North Yorks, on Boxing day.

The group also claims the hunt supporter smashed parts of their car.

Describing the moment they were attacked, the anti-hunting group posted to Facebook: “Today we decided to spread festive cheer across North Yorkshire with West Yorkshire Hunt sabs.

“First, we stopped off at the Badsworth's meet at Kirk Smeaton. Though they are now merged with the Yas and Bramham Moor, they still have separate Boxing Day meets. The Badsworth went for a bit of a trot.

“The local scum were clearly unhappy not to see some actual hunting, so decide to be aggressive and block vehicles in and smash our window with a roadkill fox whilst also smashing bits off our vehicle!”

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire police said: “Police are investigating an incident in the Kirk Smeaton area that occurred at about 12pm on 26 December 2019. Inquiries are at an early stage.”
