Bollywood movies are synonymous with characters who make the film memorable with passing time. From Mughal-E-Azam to Sanju, Bollywood has indeed produced gems of characters who have even become bigger than the movies itself at times. Gabbar : Played by Amjad Khan, he is depicted in Sholay as a dacoit with an evil laugh who leads a group in looting and plundering the villages in the region of Ramgarh. He has a sadistic personality and insists on killing whenever required to continue his status and to take revenge on his enemies. The character is considered to be one of the most iconic villains in Indian cinema.
Vijay Deenanath Chauhan : The iconic character of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan was initially portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan. Agneepath (1990) was inspired from ‘Scarface’ (1983). Vijay Deenanath Chauhan’s mannerism was inspired from Al Pacino, who played the chief protagonist, a Cuban immigrant gangster in America. Bachchan gave a memorable performance as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan and won the National Prize.
Raju : The iconic film Mera Naam Joker focuses on a clown who must make his audience laugh at the cost of his own sorrows named Raju played brilliantly by Raj Kapoor. Ever since Raju’s father died in an accident during his performance, Raju’s mother had been repulsed by the circus. As luck would have it, Raju had a natural affinity towards the circus world. The film traces Raju’s journey from his childhood to the day of his last performance.
Nargis As Radha : Mother India is a 1957 Indian epic drama film is the story of a poverty-stricken village woman named Radha (Nargis), who in the absence of her husband, struggles to raise her sons and survive against a cunning money-lender amidst many troubles. The character of Radha developed a cult status after it continued to teach the audience the real meaning of motherhood and self-respect.
Sanjay Dutt As Munna : The story involves protagonist Munna Bhai (Sanjay Dutt), a goon, going to medical school. NDTV India counted the character Munna Bhai as one of top 20 fictional characters in Bollywood. It is still mimicked and copied by countless fans across the country for how Dutt made it super iconic using his personal style!
