Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon has revealed why he’s not interested in doing any more episodes of the hit BBC comedy series.

Chatting to Heat at the National Television Awards on Sunday 26 January, the actor - who plays Uncle Bryn on the show - said he’s glad there aren’t any current plans to follow-up the hugely popular Christmas Day special.

“Personally, I would say leave it where it is, with people wanting more,” he explained. “It’s always my instinct, and I said that before this special. I was very surprised then to see that they had written it.”

The 54-year-old said he’d “much rather leave it on a high” than risk continuing the story and disappointing the fans in one way or another.

Everyone is saying, ‘You must want to do more” but it’s really hard to come back after 10 years and to make something as popular as it has been because you can get it wrong,” Brydon admitted.

Airing on the 25 December 2019, the one-off reunion special was the the UK's most-watched scripted broadcast of the decade.

It saw titular characters Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page) spend the holidays in Barry, Wales, much to the dismay of Gavin’s mum Pam (Alison Steadman).

After falling in to bed with one another, Nessa and Smithy (co-creator Ruth Jones and James Corden, respectively) found themselves at a crossroads when the former declared her love for the latter and proposed just as the episode ended. Now, fans are desperate to see what Smithy’s answer would be.

Despite their calls for more though, Jones says it’ll be “very difficult” for her and Corden to get together again and pen something new.

“We thought a few people would watch it but we did not expect eight-and-a-half million,” she told the same publication from the red carpet. “It was a shock – a lovely shock and a huge compliment. We still have the same situation, which is that James and I live on different continents,so who knows? At the moment, there are no plans.”
