A voter has captured the frustrations of many when she was asked for her reaction to news of another general election.

Speaking to a journalist in the Scottish town of Nairn, the unnamed woman sighed heavily as she was asked about the December poll.

“Do we really have to do it?” she asked.

“It’s not going to make any difference is it? They’re just making a mess of everything,” the disgruntled voter added.

The reporter then asks if she thinks the fact the vote would be held in winter would make a difference to the result.

“No, I don’t think the time of the year will make any difference. I think everbody’s just sick of them. They’re just arguing for the sake of arguing aren’t they?”

The incident was reminiscent of another reporter’s famous encounter with “Brenda from Bristol”, a voter who became an internet sensation after expressing her disappointment at the announcement of the 2017 election.

Other voters across the UK greeted news of the upcoming December vote with a mix of uncertainty, exasperation and scepticism.

Natalie Seaman, from Coventry, said: “I suppose (it is) a bit annoying, but I want to see the Tories out so I am quite happy to have the opportunity to go and vote and try and get Boris Johnson and the Conservatives out.

“It’s not going to ruin my Christmas.”

Adam Jones, describing Brexit as a “good thing”, said: “I’m not really that bothered (about an election).

“If Brexit has already been decided, then what is the general election for?“Isn’t that what we voted for?”

One woman replied simply “it’s all a mess”, while another echoed the sentiments of Brenda from Bristol, saying “Another one?”

Another despairing male voter said: “They’re all idiots, I don’t like any of them.”

A House of Commons vote on Tuesday evening confirmed an election would be held on December 12.

The Commons voted by 438 to 20 at third reading to approve the one-page Bill enabling the election.

The vote effectively clears the way for Parliament to be dissolved on November 6, paving the way for the pre-Christmas vote.
