With upcoming multistarrer Mission Mangal, Akshay Kumar has successfully secured the label of the actor who picks scripts with themes that are unusual and socially relevant. However, in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actor spoke about how he’s trying to do the exact opposite. Having been criticised for doing only a certain kind of films, has constantly pushed him to step out of his comfort zone and work on scripts that span across multiple genres like comedy, action etc.
“Whenever I get a good chance and a good script, I’ll do it. I want to have all kinds of films in my kitty,” he said.
He also added that one thing that links all his films is the theme of “women’s empowerment.” However, for every Padman and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, he feels he needs to do a Good News and Rowdy Rathore also.
Talking about his wife and celebrity Twinkle Khanna, he opened up about how influential and important she is in his career.
When asked about his ambitions to create an identity for himself in Hollywood he said, “I wouldn’t say I’ve not been offered Hollywood films, but whatever came wasn’t big enough or that great.”
Talking about his wife and celebrity Twinkle Khanna, he opened up about how influential and important she is in his career. While he doesn’t feel the need to discuss each and every script with her, he often does remember the things she tells him and that helps him make the right decision. He adds, “She told me once, ‘Koi zor zabardasti nahi hai, jo achha lage karo.’” (Don’t force yourself, do films that you like.)
Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Mission Mangal is loosely based on India’s space mission Mangalyaan. It stars Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, among others. It releases on 15 August.
