What Does The Tradition say About Govardhan Puja?

Lord Krishna Ended The Rituals Of Offering Food To Indra
Referring to Vishnu Puran, Lord Krishna once asked mother Yashoda the reason for worshipping God Indra. Mother Yashoda explained that people worship God Indra in order to get satisfactory rain for farming, foddering cows or to obtain cereals from cultivated lands. Young Kanha disagreed with Maa Yashoda and asked the villagers to stop worshipping God Indra, instead of it he requested them to worship the Govardhan mountain, as the mountain would help the villagers to bring adequate rain. Lord Krishna ended the rituals to offer large amounts of food to God Indra and further advised the villagers to use it for feeding their families.

Lord Krishna Rescues The People From Indra’s Wrath
God Indra was furious by the act of the young boy and he decided to take revenge in the form of torrential rain and storm. Due to the heavy rains, the people of Gokul were stranded and asked Lord Krishna to intervene. Young Krishna immediately took the villagers at Govardhan hill, where he uprooted the mountain on his little finger. Villagers, along with their pets, took shelter from Govardhan mountain. Lord Krishna lifted the mountain for straight 7 days and even after extremely poor weather conditions, villagers were unharmed. Soon, God Indra found that the young boy is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Performing Vishnu Puja on this auspicious day helps to bring positivity in your house.
