Gujarat sees 485 new COVID-19 cases, 709 recoveries, 2 deaths

(Eds: Adding info) Ahmedabad, Jan 19 (PTI) Gujarat on Tuesday recorded 485 fresh coronavirus positive cases, taking the count of infections to 2,56,852, the state health department said.

With two more persons succumbing to the viral infection, the overall death toll in the state mounted to 4,369, it said.

At 709, the number of the people discharged during the day exceeded the new cases in Gujarat.

With this, the total number of recovered cases in the state rose to 2,46,516 while the case recovery rate improved to 95.98 per cent, the department said in a release.

With the fresh coronavirus positive cases on a decline since the last few weeks, the number of active cases in Gujarat fell to 5,967, it said.

At 103, Ahmedabad reported the highest number of fresh coronavirus positive cases in the day in the state, taking the case tally in the district to 61,044.

With one fresh death, the overall COVID-19 toll in Ahmedabad district rose to 2,282, the department said.

Vadodara reported 95 new cases, Surat 92, and Rajkot 65, followed by Jamnagar 19, Mehsana and Gandhinagar 14 each, Kutch 11, Kheda eight, Dahod seven etc.

Gujarat's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 2,56,852, new cases 485, deaths 4,369, active cases 5,967. The number of the people tested so far was not released.

Union Territory of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli reported one recovery on Tuesday. No new COVID-19 case was reported during the day.

The total number of coronavirus positive cases in the UT now stands at 3,360 and recoveries at 3,352, officials said.

There are six active cases in the UT, which has reported two deaths so far, they added. PTI KA NSK NSK
